QR2R

Free PDF QR code generator

Print a tiny QR on a placemat or beer mat and a hungry diner gets your full menu PDF on their phone — no app, no signup, no scrolling through your website. PDF QR codes are the workhorse of restaurants, museum exhibits, real-estate listings, and product manuals.

The static path encodes a hosted PDF URL: paste a link to a PDF you already host (Dropbox, Google Drive, your CDN, your own site) and the QR opens it directly in the phone's PDF reader. If you don't have hosting, our free 5MB upload puts the file on QR2R's R2 bucket with a permanent public URL — no account required.

For PDFs that change often (menus, schedules, newsletters), upgrade to a dynamic QR. You print once and update the destination PDF whenever — the printed QR stays valid forever. The static designer flags PDFs over 5MB and suggests the dynamic path.

  • Encodes a hosted PDF URL — works with Dropbox, Drive, your own CDN.
  • Free 5MB upload to QR2R R2 if you don't self-host.
  • Phone-native PDF viewer experience — no extra app.
  • Density warnings when long PDF URLs make the QR small.

PDF QR — frequently asked questions

  • Does the QR include the PDF itself?
No — a QR holds at most a few kilobytes. The QR encodes a URL pointing at your hosted PDF. The phone fetches the PDF when scanned.
  • Where should I host the PDF?
Anywhere with a stable HTTPS URL — Dropbox, Google Drive (use a direct-share link), your CDN, your website. We provide free 5MB hosting if you don't have a host.
  • Will scanning open the PDF or download it?
iOS Safari opens it inline. Android Chrome opens in the system PDF viewer. Both behaviours are fine for the user; you don't control which.
  • What if my PDF is bigger than 5MB?
Either compress it (Acrobat → Reduce File Size, Preview → Export → Reduce File Size) or self-host. For PDFs over ~20MB, consider extracting just the relevant pages — slow downloads kill scan-to-action conversion.
  • Can I update the PDF after printing the QR?
Static QRs encode a fixed URL — replacing the file at that URL is fine; replacing the URL itself means a new QR. For edit-anytime, use our dynamic PDF mode.
  • Does it work for password-protected PDFs?
Yes — the QR opens the URL; the PDF reader handles the password prompt. Just be aware that "find the QR" + "type the password" is two steps your audience may not complete.
  • How big should the QR be on a menu or brochure?
Roughly 2cm × 2cm minimum if the user is at the table; larger for posters and shelf-talkers. The longer the URL, the larger the QR has to be — short hosting URLs (qr2r.com/p/abc) help.
