QR2R

Free email QR code generator

Email QRs open the phone's email app with the To: address and optionally a subject and body already filled in. Useful for newsletter sign-ups (subject = SUBSCRIBE), feedback forms (subject = Feedback), or simple "email us about this product" stickers on packaging.

The encoder uses the standard mailto: URI, the same format used by every "email this link" button on the web. It works with Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, Spark, and any other phone email client. Subject and body are URL-encoded so emojis, line breaks, and punctuation all survive.

For bulk newsletter sign-ups, this is a lighter-weight alternative to a hosted form — no server, no spam protection to wire up, no GDPR consent flow. The user opens their own email client, edits if they want, and hits Send. They've already opted in by sending.

  • Pre-filled recipient, subject and body via mailto: URI.
  • Works with every phone email client (Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, Spark).
  • No server needed for newsletter sign-ups.
  • URL-encoded — emojis and special characters preserved.

Email QR — frequently asked questions

  • Does the email get sent automatically?
No — the QR opens the composer pre-filled. The user has to tap Send. Phones never auto-send emails on scan.
  • Can I prefill the body with a long message?
Yes, but keep it under ~500 chars — longer bodies push the QR into denser modules and may not fit some phones' URI length limits.
  • Will it work with Gmail and Apple Mail?
Yes — mailto: is universally supported. The user picks which mail app handles it (default for the OS, or last-used).
  • Can I include CC or BCC?
Yes — the body field accepts the standard mailto: query parameters, including cc, bcc, in-reply-to. We don't expose UI for these in v1; raise an issue if you need them.
  • What if the scanner doesn't have an email app set up?
On iOS, the OS opens the App Store Mail app prompt. On Android, the user picks an installed mail app or installs one. Either way the user is one tap away from sending.
  • Why doesn't my QR open the email app?
Most often: the email address has a typo or invalid characters. Re-check the address. The designer validates basic email format and warns if invalid.
